After some research i diagnosed that it was possibly a control board going bad from some power outages over time. first i opened the panel to check if any of the plugs into it were loose and it worked for a while then eventually just cut out. ordered the part and then unhooked all plugs from the control board. this requires removing the filter hood to view the screw securing the control board.
