The heating element fix is very easy - just remove two screws holding the element in place, gently pull the element to expose the connected wires, unplug the wires, plug in the new element, screw it back in, and voila....perfectly working oven! Over time the numbers on the dials had become rubbed off from cleaning, so it was difficult to know if we were selecting the right temp.
