Washing machines require a timer to operate correctly. The timer is responsible for the operations of the washer, including filling and emptying the tub, how long a cycle runs, and other various cycle sequence settings. If the timer has failed or is malfunctioning, a replacement part is required.When the timer does not advance or if the machine is operating sporadically, it's an indication the timer is damaged. Replacing the timer in a washing machine is simple. The component is located in the control panel of the appliance. Disconnect the washer from its power source before starting the repair. Missing plastic clip on lid switch was the problem. Replaced plastic clip, washer operates good as new. Pliers are needed to seat the plastic piece securely onto the lid switch. Read more
This transmission and brake assembly includes the tub seal and is used on many General Electric top load washers.
Replaced transmission and brake assembly. The video on appliancepartspros.com was very helpful. A few comments: 1) On my model, there was no wiring harness to unhook to detach the lid switch, as was shown on the video. Instead, I had to remove the switch itself. Underneath, one of the short edges of the switch has a clip that you depress, and then you can poke the switch up. We were taping our broken tub ring so it could at least last for a couple of more washes but no the water would come out and the washer would start to bounce! Its alive!! After a recent power surge, our washer would not spin or agitate. I tried replacing the timer but the motor still would not spin or agitate. I was really hoping the motor was not fried. I replaced the fuse and its working like a champion again!
