This was a very easy repair, the on-line video at AppliancePartsPros.com was helpful. The Helix was spinning freely (meaning, the Auger Blade was not holding it in place on the Auger). Pulling the assembly apart was a snap, and very logical (the video is perfect if you get lost). The family is now enjoying both crushed and cubed ice - and the redesign of the Auger Blade seems to prevent clogging in the ice shoot. Read more

I replaced the fan and heater element. The replacement was not an exact match. I had to adjust the parts to get the harness to fit the plug was not the correct size. I cut it off and used the existing plug. Not a big deal and everything else fit. Pretty good for a twenty year old replacement. Also the heater element was a different shape but it fit as is. We bought a new house that has a 15 year old GE Monogram built in fridge. The home warranty people sent two guys out saying it was nearly impossible to repair the fridge and they both suggested buying a completely new freezer door for the fridge and of course the warranty company said it was preexisting and we weren't covered. This vaporizer pan and drip tray assembly fits refrigerators. When the freezer automatically defrosts, meltwater must be moved out. It empties out of a drain line into the drain pan/drip tray. The vaporizer portion of the assembly then helps to evaporate the water. Made from stainless steel, it resists corrosion and damage, but prolonged use may result in rust. Eventually, it will need to be replaced. The most common sign that the drip tray and vaporizer pan need to be replaced is visible water leaking from under the refrigerator, or the drain line backing up into the freezer. Replacement will require accessing the bottom of the refrigerator. Unplug it from the power, then locate the four bolts that hold it in place. Use a ratchet and socket to remove the bolts, and then install the new pan assembly. This is a genuine OEM part. It is sold individually, and is designed to work with GE refrigerators.
