My refrigerator items were freezing Mayilet F. • Hialeah , FL • February 24, 2020
I ordered a freezer temperature control. I ordered from you because parts are certified. Last thing I wanted was to go through the replacement process with a part that didn’t work. I’m not a handy person by nature, and I have zero common sense. I watched the awesome instructional video that you provided with my order several times. Before receiving or even opening the package, I felt that I knew what to expect because I watched the video so many times. Before beginning, I made sure I had as...

Not cooling properly eventually evaporator fan failure Richard D. • Wood Ridge , NJ • April 25, 2016
My problem first showed up as varying temperature in both sections of my old mid 1970’s Frigidaire model FPCI-170T-7 refrigerator, which is not listed on most appliance repair databases.
Running on the warm side from time to time, as well as sudden fan noise (probably the fan blade hitting ice build-up on the evaporator coil) alerted me to a possible defrost system problem, since the compressor was cooling. The evaporator fan eventually failed after a day or so, and a major repair was...

Upright frost free freezer would not keep food frozen (Frigidaire name plate but made by (Electrolux) testing determined the refrigeration system worked but it would not defrost. Kenton K. • Chanhassen , MN • May 31, 2020
Fixed it by replacing the electronic control board. Only 30 min. to fix. (See further down for effort to diagnose the problem.) Most of this "fixing time" was spent removing the control panel to access the control board that is attached to it. My freezer has the control panel located in the top center of the door. The only way to remove the control panel is to pry the panel out of the door using a thin-bladed putty knife. The instructions provided were very good in explaining the process;...

This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart.

Freezer would not shut down kept running continuously Jd F. • Russellville , AR • October 22, 2014
Suspected it was the thermostat, since temperature stayed the same at multiple settings over a 24 hr period. There was only three components inside the freezer besides the evaporator, the fan was working, so I decided to just go ahead and replace the thermostat and defrost thermostat. Also replaced the defrost timer by the compressor, just to get all the old parts replaced with new. I had already replaced the compressor, so now I've pretty much have a new freezer. Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 5303918255
This defrost heater kit restores the automatic defrost cycle by melting frost from the freezer's evaporator coils. Replacing a failed heater helps clear ice buildup, restore airflow, and stabilize temperatures for reliable cooling performance.
- Heats the evaporator during defrost to remove frost and ice
- Helps maintain proper airflow through the coils for consistent cooling
- Common symptoms of a failed heater: heavy frost on the back freezer wall, weak airflow, warming temps, or cooling that improves after a manual defrost
- Supports efficient operation by preventing ice from re-forming on the evaporator
What's included: 1 defrost heater assembly Install notes:
- Unplug the refrigerator before servicing; let any sharp parts or coils warm up to avoid damage
- Access the heater behind the freezer's rear panel; handle the element carefully to avoid damage
- Note wire routing and mounting before removal to match the original configuration
- Check the defrost thermostat and defrost control/timer for proper operation

Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 240356221
This defrost heater warms the evaporator coil during the automatic defrost cycle to melt frost and ice, restoring airflow and consistent temperatures. Replace a failed heater to stop recurring frost buildup and uneven cooling. What it does:
- Heats the evaporator to clear frost/ice so air can circulate
- Helps maintain stable refrigerator and freezer temperatures
- Symptoms include heavy frost on the back freezer panel or coils, poor cooling, evaporator fan noise from ice contact, or frost returning soon after a manual defrost
What's included:
Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing
- Remove freezer shelves and the rear interior panel to access the evaporator area
- Transfer the heater into the original clips/brackets and route wiring exactly as original, away from sharp edges and the fan
- If frost returns after replacement, also test the defrost thermostat and the defrost control
Diagnostic tip:
- With power disconnected, the heater should show continuity on an ohmmeter; an open circuit indicates a failed element

Defrost cycle was not working frost in the freezer department Charles B. • Yorktown Hts. , NY • September 19, 2014
First replaced defrost timer which tested OK - but reasonable price and easy to replace. When that did not fix the problem replaced the defrost thermostat and defrost heater. That fixed the problem. However all three parts tested OK ?? May have been a loose connection or intermittent problem with one of the parts. Final cost for all three parts was much cheaper than a service call!!

Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 5317842502
The defrost heater mounts at the evaporator to melt accumulated frost during the automatic defrost cycle. Replacing a failed heater restores airflow and temperature stability, preventing ice buildup that blocks vents and reduces cooling performance. What it does:
- Heats the evaporator coil to clear frost during the defrost cycle

- Common symptoms: heavy frost on the back wall or coils
- Weak/no airflow or fan hitting ice; warmer temperatures; long run times
What's included:
Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing
- Access the evaporator and allow heavy ice to thaw—do not force ice off the fins
- Transfer any mounting clips and route wires like the original, away from sharp edges
- Handle the element carefully; reinstall the evaporator cover before restoring power

Refrigerator tripping arc fault circuit breaker William H. • Wilmot , WI • June 27, 2015
White Westinghouse refrigerator door was accidentally left open over night when it was humid, and moisture condensed on the interior. In the morning the arc fault circuit breaker was tripped. Started unplugging various components, compressor, evaporator fan, finally the defrost heater before it could be plugged in without tripping the breaker. The back wall of my freezer was frozen but working and the bottom or fridge section was not cold Paula S. • St. Louis , MO • July 09, 2017
Well my reliable handyman brother told me he fixed his fridge, as he had same problem. Freezer working but fridge warm. He suggested I order Defrost Heater Kit. I looked it up on your website and found part but noticed Defrost Thermostat as well. So I ordered both. Anyhow he installed the thermostat only. Fridge is cooling. We did not install Defrost Heater Kit. Gonna see if we even need to? So far so good with just the thermostat. We'll be watching to see if back wall freezes up again.
