Microwave not heating food? A faulty high voltage diode disrupts power conversion. Common DIY repair requiring discharge safety and multimeter testing.
After dismounting the unit from its wall-hanging bracket, the most tedious part of the repair was removing over a dozen screws holding the cover in place from the top, bottom, and both sides. Fortunately, I had placed the unit on a bench that allowed me to slide the unit allowing access to the screws on the bottom edges of the unit. Always discharge the capacitor before continuing to work on the unit by discharging the capacitor by shorting the contact without the diode to ground. Access to the... Read more
Fix a microwave that won't start or runs with the door open. This door interlock switch is a common DIY repair taking 15-30 minutes with basic tools.
Checked the three door switches; used ohm meter to see if there was resistance or if a switch was bad. 2 out of 3 switches showed resistance with the ohm meter. The last one tested (of course the last one) NO (normally open) did not show resistance; I.e. the ohm meter reading did not change when the switch was depressed. Appliance parts pros was the only company that had the same model number I was looking for (SZW-V16-FD-63). I ordered the relay switch, 2 days later it arrived (regular... Read more
Microwave won't power on or has no display? This thermostat monitors internal temperature to prevent overheating. Easy 15-minute DIY fix for most models.
I attempted to diagnose the four thermostats/thermal switches in the microwave....two right behind the control panel, one on top of the cooking cabin, and one under a metal shroud above the magnetron. While checking continuity with a voltmeter, i questioned one of them behind the control panel and the one above the magnetron. I then noticed a burn mark on the plastic connector sleeve for the one above the magnetron. I took a scrap piece of 14 gage copper wire and beat the ends flat with a... Read more

Microwave won't turn on or has no display? The overheat thermostat often fails and cuts power as a safety feature. DIY fix in about 10 minutes.
Removed microwave from the built in cabinet (probably the hardest part) and took off top cover (screws on side and back). Had previously blown the power fuse 2 times in this microwave, so I checked the fuse first using an ohmmeter. This time fuse was good. Traced the power wires around to top side of microwave and saw the overheat "therm" switch. I believe the therm is installed there as a safety feature to open the power circuit to the microwave in case something was to overheat for any... Read more

Once I figured out what this was, I saw a video on replacing it. Was super easy and I found the parts on Appliance Parts Pros. Ordered it and got it in a few days. Popped it in and it was good to go. After my wife accidentally melted the cover, I thought I was going to have to trash it and get a new one. Saved myself hundreds of dollars by doing a little research. I’ve used Appliance Parts Pros many times and everything from them has been great! Read more
