Description

This bimetal defrost thermostat mounts on the freezer evaporator tubing and monitors coil temperature to control the defrost heater. Replacing a failed thermostat restores proper defrosting, reduces frost buildup, and helps maintain stable refrigerator and freezer temperatures.

• Monitors evaporator temperature and opens the circuit to end the defrost cycle once ice has melted
• Closes when sufficiently cold so the defrost heater can energize during the next cycle
• Acts as a safety limit to help prevent overheating during defrost
• Typical symptoms: heavy frost on the back wall/evaporator, refrigerator section too warm, unit not defrosting, or defrost heater not energizing

• Remove freezer bins/shelves and back panel to access the evaporator; melt excess ice as needed (do not pry on coils)

• Reassemble panels, restore power, and verify normal operation
