Whirlpool WP12550116Q Freezer Door Gasket OEM Part

I followed a video to remove the inside door panel and gasket. Putting the new gasket was as easy as the video said. The only problem was ice had built up on the inside of the door panel that needed to be defrosted.

Unfortunately, this model has the screws that you need to loosen before you can squeeze the rubber in but the gaskets fit perfectly. It took a lot more time than the video showed but that was because the video was of the pop in type. Be sure when pushing the rubber under the metal strip you make sure it actually goes in. I think the last people installed the gaskets incorrectly and that's why they broke and pulled out of place. Unscrew the bolts first, I used an electric drill. The old gasket pulls out easily. Instructions say to put the corners in first but with the screws it was better to do the top first, then sides and bottom last. If you have a bottom freezer, I recommend taking the door off before you attempt to replace the seal. No need to with the refrigerator part as there is enough space to see under. I used a flathead screwdriver to help push the rubber behind the metal as it didn't want to go all the way in just using my hand. I think it helped to get under 2 or 3 screws and then tighten them before moving to the next section because the rubber had a tendency to pull back out as you moved along. I also recommend using the hair dryer to help get the kinks out. The freezer door fit fine but it did take 2 or 3 days before the magnets in the fridge door really held. I refused my husbands help but that might not have been wise. Even thought it took a while, don't give up. Good luck!

About a year ago I had an issue with the freezer not sealing well, had frost buildup etc. Bought a 'new' gasket from "another site on Amazon" that turned out to be neither a 'genuine OEM part' nor a good fit. So when the frost started getting heavy again (worse in fact than the first time) I ordered this one. Basic install went smooth - was glad gasket was delivered in a proper box instead of all bunched up like the first time. With a bit of help holding (from my 10yo son) was able to get the door apart, gaskets swapped, freezer cleaned out (why not eh?) in less than an hour. New gasket is noticeably better - 3 days later and no frost. Also door stays shut easier.
