Jonathan for Model Number FRT18B4AWA Hi, My refrigerator has given me problems in the past on defrosting when I left on vacation during the winter. I found out this was due to the refrigerator not operting in cold temps. Now what is happening is I left for a week on business and set the thermostat for the house at 45. Came back and everything is defrosted. Usually in the past when the house warms up everything starts to work again. Now the compressor and circulation fan will run continuously and a thermometer shows the air temperature (in the freezer section) will fluctuate from 30 to 60 degrees. This will also cause the compressor to get very hot. I have unplugged the frig for 2 hours and the same symptoms occurs after plugging back in. I would like to believe that the temperature control thermostat is malfuctioning but more likely I think the compressor may be going bad and might as well replace the frig (it is already 9.5 years old). What do you think? Thanks for your help.
Answer Hello Jonathan. If the compressor is running, and it is not cooling, it sounds like the sealed system is bad and will need to be repaired on the unit. That requires an HVAC tech to repair the unit. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Monday, February 17, 2014
