Elizabeth for Model Number Frigidaire LFHT1713LW First of all, I'm not sure of the last number for the model number above, your site gave me several when I did a search. My question is this, when I took the freezer backing off, there were no wires or anything else for that matter connected to the tempature control knob. It's just attached to the plastic housing. There's not even a hole in the metal sheet backing. Is this normal? If not, could this be why it keeps freezing over the stuff in my frige is frosen on the top shelf, water is in the bottom of the frige and why the freezer fan is constantly running? Thanks for your help, Lisa
Answer Hi Elizabeth. Is the cooling in the fridge at proper temps ? It sounds like the freezer evaporator coils (behind the back wall ) are frozen over and the fan is constantly running to satisfy the cold control. The top (freezer) back control is for the amount of freezer air to be dropped into the fridge. It should always be set for mid-point. If frozen over then the defrost heater circuit is not working. You need to advance the defrost timer to the 2nd heavy click to start the heater . If it does not come on then you have either a bad wire, bad defrost thermostat part # 5303918202, or a bad defrost heater part # 242044007. It is in my opinion that the thermostat mostly does not close at 14° or colder. If not closing, then your heater will not get the voltage to come on. you need to use a volt / ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to help. The thermostat in frozen conditions will ohm closed normally. (not open). The heater will read 8-18 ohms not open. Thank You. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Friday, February 24, 2012
