Stephanie for Model Number ATF8000FS1 Okay so I'd been having problems with my washer for awhile. The door was sagging from a messed up hinge, which caused the lock to not engage unless I was real forceful with the door. Recently, it got to the point where the lock wouldn't work at all and the top part of the striker snapped apart so I finally set in to fix everything. Using your website and videos, I bought a new striker, lock hatch and door hinge (just to cover all bases since there seemed to be problems with all three parts). I was waiting on the hinge to deliver last so I replaced the striker and lock hatch and tested the machine with a spin cycle (safe bet since no water was involved). The machine clicked and blinked the indicate the lock had successfully engaged and the machine made sounds as if powering up to spin... But, to be thorough in my test, I gave a slight tug on the door to make sure everything was really running how it was supposed to and it popped open as if no lock had actually been in place. I tested a couple other times. As long as no actual weight/load was in the wash, the entire process would work, but the door would not actually lock despite the machine claiming it was and running no problem. (For instance, I could go through a whole wash cycle - water included - with an empty drum and it would go fine, door wouldn't pop open on its own, etc... but if I were to give that same soft tug on the door, it would open as if never locked to begin with.) I tried doing a very small load of clothes on the lowest wash setting and it worked about halfway (or perhaps up to the spin cycle starting) and then the door popped open on its own. I have since also replaced the door hinge and put everything back together one final time and now it's as though there's no suction between the door and the machine base. The door won't even stick closed on its own and pops open within a few seconds of closing it no matter how much pressure is applied. At this point, I'm stumped and I'd love some advice on the matter. How can my machine claim the lock is engaged and start a wash cycle when the lock is clearly malfunctioning still? What can I do next to fix what's wrong now?
Answer Stephanie, The machine doesn't know what the door lock is actually doing it just knows its telling the door to lock.I would suggest the door lock and the control and im sending a tech sheet to help you out with testing.Parts 131763256 is door lock.
