Mitch for Model Number GLHS35EHSB4 The freezer and the fridge compartments are both not getting cold. I tested the compressor, the 241524605 starter, and the attached capacitor and those parts all seem to be ok. When I plug the refrigerator into the outlet, I initially hear a grinding noise inside the fridge compartment and it's coming from the top left side right behind the temperature controls. After about 30 seconds or so after plugging the refrigerator in, the grinding noise stops. The fridge compartment temperature blinks continuously the number 4, what does this mean? I tried setting the temperature for the fridge compartment and I'm able to set it to 33 degreess, but after a few moments it goes back to blinking the number 4 again. Does this mean I should I replace the Pur-Beta Control AP5656814?
Answer Mitch, the grinding noise would be coming from the damper 241600906 (Note: Damper Control w/ one switch, if you need a Damper Control with two switches, order part# 241600902). The damper failing could cause the unit to flash the error 4 and not allow the unit to cool. However, another issue could be the control. The control can be tested by pressing and holding the freezer up key while pressing the freezer down key 3 times quickly. As soon as the freezer down key is pressed for the 3rd time, release the freezer up key. As soon as the input is recognized, the number 1 will show and the fresh food down key will need to be pressed once. If the fresh food display flashes 1 and 1, the control 241739709 has an old program that would need to be replaced. If the display flashes 1 then 2, the programming is current and replacing the grinding damper would most likely be the only necessary repair. If the damper has inadvertently shorted out, it could have impacted the control. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Monday, February 24, 2020
