Frank B. for Model Number GTWN5550D0WW I’m having a similar issue where the wash machine is making a grinding noise when agitating. The bottom of the pulley is hitting the metal supports in the bottom. Quite a bit of metal shavings. Is it the apron support?
Answer Hello Frank, There is a service bulletin on this issue that reads as follows: Grinding Metallic Scrapping Sound During Operation GE Appliances top load washer with a removable front service panel may experience a grinding and/or metallic scrapping sound during operation. One of the most common reasons is the bottom cabinet base bent upwards due to incorrect dolly handling. A cabinet base which is bent upwards not usually obvious. You have to load or push down on the suspension to recreate the condition for rubbing on the base. Verify Condition: 1) Remove the front panel. 2) Verify cabinet base is bent up by pushing down on the washer basket to simulate a full load of water and clothing. With the suspension pushed down/loaded and moving in a circular motion, confirm if the bottom of motor, shipping rod brackets or pulleys are hitting on the washer cabinet base. If so, the base is bent up. Repair: 1) Push downward on the cabinet base to provide clearance from moving parts. Note: Machine may need to be tilted back slightly get an over-bend downward to maintain the base in the proper position away from moving parts. 2)Test with a full load to ensure there no contact with the cabinet base during operation. This model is not included in the list for the apron repair kit. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Tuesday, May 7, 2019
