Frank B. May 07, 2019 for Model Number GTWN5550D0WW I’m having a similar issue where the wash machine is making a grinding noise when agitating. The bottom of the pulley is hitting the metal supports in the bottom. Quite a bit of metal shavings. Is it the apron support?
1 Answer Hello Frank, There is a service bulletin on this issue that reads as follows: Grinding Metallic Scrapping Sound During Operation GE Appliances top load washer with a removable front service panel may experience a grinding and/or metallic scrapping sound during operation. One of the most common reasons is the bottom cabinet base bent upwards due to incorrect dolly handling. A cabinet base which is bent upwards not usually obvious. You have to load or push down on the suspension to recreate the condition for rubbing on the base. Verify Condition: 1) Remove the front panel. 2) Verify cabinet base is bent up by pushing down on the washer basket to simulate a full load of water and clothing. With the suspension pushed down/loaded and moving in a circular motion, confirm if the bottom of motor, shipping rod brackets or pulleys are hitting on the washer cabinet base. If so, the base is bent up. Repair: 1) Push downward on the cabinet base to provide clearance from moving parts. Note: Machine may need to be tilted back slightly get an over-bend downward to maintain the base in the proper position away from moving parts. 2)Test with a full load to ensure there no contact with the cabinet base during operation. This model is not included in the list for the apron repair kit. Read More...
E.Simon November 20, 2018 As the washer fills, the tub sinks to the point that the motor mounting bracket rubs on the base of the washing machine when it has a large load. When it agitates or spins, you can hear a grinding noise. I believe the springs in the suspension rods are weak to the point that it cannot support the weight. With a small load, the tub sinks, but not enough to rub on the bottom. Will replacing the suspension rods cure this problem?
1 Answer E.Simon, Yes, it sounds like your on the right track. I can't look up part numbers for you without the model but if you have any problems just send us another question with the model. Read More...
Katz January 04, 2018 for Model Number WPRE6100G0WT Is there a kit or part to fix sagging on this model number? After water is added to load, the drum lowers enough for the nut under the belt to drag along the bottom creating scrapping noise during the spin cycle and also lots of metal shavings.
Thomas October 31, 2017 for Model Number GTW180SSJ0WW The bracket on the bottom of the motor is banging against the angle bracket that is on the floor of the washer during wash /agitate cycle, what do I need to do?
1 Answer Hello Thomas. Make sure that the base didn't get bent moving the washer around. If not, then the apron WH46X10270 will need to be replaced. Thank you. Read More...
Tom K September 25, 2017 for Model Number GHWN5250DOWS I was experiencing this same issue, but was able to "fix" the rubbing issue by popping the bottom pan down a bit. Is my model on the list for needing the repair kit? I'd rather get ahead of any future issues.
1 Answer Hello Tom. No, your model is not listed for the apron kit. It sounds like the floor of your model got bent and was causing the motor bracket to rub when running. Read More...
Trent January 02, 2017 for Model Number WBSE2090A0WW GE washer - The pulley beneath the motor scrapes the base of the washer when fully loaded. All advice from online points to a sagging apron which needs to be replaced. I cannot seem to find this part online. Is this something that you keep in stock, or might you suggest another issue that could be causing this problem? Thanks.
Kevin June 09, 2015 for Model Number HTWP1200D0WW Hi, The pulley beneath the washer is rubbing on the bottom when fully loaded. I can't seem to find an apron repair kit for this model. Do you have a repair kit for this model? Thanks for your help.
1 Answer Kevin, There is not a apron repair kit for this unit and your would need to replace the rod weld assembly which would most likely be bent causing this issue or the rods if they are damaged. Read More...
Kevin December 23, 2014 for Model Number WNSR3100W0WW Washer would not agitate so I removed the font panel and the belt was lying on the bottom floor of the washer. There had been alot of obvious rubbing of the belt on the floor. My question is, am I experiencing the apron sagging issue? If so what part number would I need to replace it? Thank you.
1 Answer Hello Kevin, Your model number does not fall in the model list put out by GE as a model affected by the apron kit issue. You can tell by removing the main front panel and holding a straight edge across the front of the body near the top. With the straightedge in place, you will see the malformation of the cabinet. In the apron issue, the sides of the cabinet will normally bulge out directly under the main top on both sides. This can be an issue with the lower transmission shaft which is not serviceable without changing the gearcase. Read More...
Elizabeth November 25, 2014 for Model Number WJRR4170G2WW After research and reading other posts, I believe the grinding noise I hear when my washer is loaded is due to a sagging apron. Is this conversion kit all I need, or do I also need to replace the top?
Clark E. October 17, 2014 for Model Number GE We recently had to replace our top support GE part WH49X20925 due to sagging. The machine had squeeked for awhile during agitation and then just stopped altogether. The part was actually bent and loose. Replacing the part fixed the issue. We hypothesize that it may have been caused by initial use after installation when the installer failed to remove the packing rod at the base and the machine jumped all over the basement for a minute. Is that a possibility, or if not what would one have to do to bend and loosen this part? Thank you
1 Answer Hello Clark, The failure of this part was due to the material used in the manufacture of the part. GE had a factory rework on these because of the weak metal used. The part will need to be replaced since the original part can never be re-shaped and hold the correct shape. The exact kit used to correct the situation has to be looked up by the model number listed on the units' I.D. tag. Repost with that information of call us at 1-877-477-7278 and one of our representatives can look that information up for you. Read More...
