Nicholas for Model Number JNM1851SM4SS I have a GE JNM1851SM4SS microwave. I turned it on and heard popping like there was metal inside. I could see a glow coming from behind the stirrer cover. Cover and stirrer appear to be fine. I removed the magnetometer and the metal think sticking out the top appears burned. Should I assume a new magnetometer will get me up and running again?
Answer Hello Nicholas, the antenna of the magnetron has arced, the magnetron is replaceable as part WB27X10880, however, first, you have to inspect the inside of the waveguide duct where the antenna goes in as best you can, if the interior walls of the duct show arc marks then the microwave is not repairable, the waveguide is not a replaceable part. the arc marks will prevent the magnetron from working correctly and will in a short time damage it.
