Rbj November 29, 2023 for Model Number JVM1871SK04 GE Spacemaker1800 XL stopped heating. Day before heard some sparking when starting up but then worked for a while. Now just humming loudly when turning on with no heating. Concerned about working on myself because of high voltage retained in the capacitor. Main Question: If I leave the microwave unplugged for a day or two, will that drain out the dangerous levels of voltage from capacitor and magnetron? Thank you, RBJ
1 Answer Rbj, It is supposed to drain but better safe than sorry. Go ahead and short out the capacitor with insulated pliers. Read More...
Rbj November 29, 2023 for Model Number JVM1871SK04 Microwave stopped heating. A couple days prior I heard some intermittent sparking when starting. Now just giving a loud humming and no heating. Would like to repair myself but concerned about getting voltage out of the unit/capacitor/magnetron before replacing part. Watched videos on YouTube and suggestions (insulated needle-nose pliers, crossing a pair of plastic handled awls while touching each capacitor connection, etc). Main question: If I leave the microwave unplugged for a couple days, will it drain all the dangerous levels of voltage out of the capacitor and take away the potential of electrical shock. Other question: Out of the three most likely problems (magnetron, capacitor, diode) which would you install first based on the symptoms? Thank you.
1 Answer Rbj, Leaving the unit unplugged is supposed to drain out the high voltage but better safe than sorry. Go ahead and short the capacitor with insulated pliers. Usually, you will find the magnetron is the problem. Read More...
Nicholas July 13, 2020 for Model Number JNM1851SM4SS I have a GE JNM1851SM4SS microwave. I turned it on and heard popping like there was metal inside. I could see a glow coming from behind the stirrer cover. Cover and stirrer appear to be fine. I removed the magnetometer and the metal think sticking out the top appears burned. Should I assume a new magnetometer will get me up and running again?
1 Answer Hello Nicholas, the antenna of the magnetron has arced, the magnetron is replaceable as part WB27X10880, however, first, you have to inspect the inside of the waveguide duct where the antenna goes in as best you can, if the interior walls of the duct show arc marks then the microwave is not repairable, the waveguide is not a replaceable part. the arc marks will prevent the magnetron from working correctly and will in a short time damage it. Sue February 02, 2017 for Model Number JVM3670WF001 I purchased my GE Profile Spacemaker XL 1800 36" microwave oven in 2005. I really like it. Shortly before Christmas last year we put something in it to heat it up. We heard a popping noise and now the microwave doesn't heat up. Everything else appears to be working fine. What's wrong with my microwave and is it worth trying to fix?
1 Answer Hello Sue. You most likely have a "high voltage" side malfunction. Transformer, diode, magnetron, Capacitor. You will need to be extremely careful if you decide to test the components with a multi meter, Very high residual voltage is present, so make sure you remove power to the microwave and short across the terminals on the capacitor. The magnetron should have a reading of less than 1 ohm resistance across the two terminals, and an "open" circuit between each terminal and chassis ground. The diode/rectifier should have a resistance reading in one direction only, no resistance, or resistance in both directions indicate a faulty diode. The primary winding on the trans former should read approximately 450 Ohms resistance, the secondary winding should read 80 ohms resistance, and the filament transformer should read 100 ohms resistance. If all the readings are proper and in range, replace the magnetron. Read More...
Harold H January 25, 2017 for Model Number JVM1850SM2SS I like to know will a om75p-10 that in my microwave be replace with a om75p-31 ? I was told it would work in my microwave oven.. will it work..?
1 Answer Hello Harold. Based on the model number you provided, WB27X10880 is the correct magnetron for the unit. Read More...
Bill February 21, 2016 for Model Number PVM1870DM1WW Hello-microwave started making an arcing/sparking/popping noise and noticed the sparking was visible thru the upper right vent. Turned off and unplugged. Any ideas? Thanks!
1 Answer Hello Bill. You will need to check and see if the magnetron is bad and will need to be replaced in the unit. Read More...
Craig January 20, 2015 for Model Number PVM1870SM3SS Microwave does not power up. I checked outlet for main power with meter and it's good. I checked both of the line fuses for continuity and they are both good. I still have unit mounted under cabinet. How and where do check the thermal fuse and thermal protector? Or what else can I try? The problem began with simply setting a cook time and microwave would run for a few short seconds and then loose all power. It would return with in a few seconds and a message would appear "power interrupted during cook time please reset" I'm not sure where to go to from here.
1 Answer Hello Craig. Check all connections inside the microwave and see if any are loose or bad. If not, then you will need to order and replace the smart board WB27X11068 in the unit. Read More...
Prashant January 02, 2014 for Model Number JNM1851SM2SS My old magnetron part had two set of wires connecting to it, whereas the replacement I received only has one connection. I did not receive any instructions for connecting the magnetron. What do I do with wires that do not have a place to connect on the new part? Appreciate your help!
1 Answer Hello Prashant. The thermostat WB27X10166 has to be removed from the old part and installed onto the new magnetron. Read More...
Jean November 17, 2013 for Model Number JVM3670SK04 GE Profile microwave worked at noon and then not at night the same day. Seems to make all the same sounds as before (Maybe a little lower & slower) and everything seems to works, except nothing cooks. After a extended cook time to see if anything changed, a very slight electrical hot smell, maybe.
