Jeff, I don't think the auger helix is the cause of your issue. The auger helix is made of stainless steel, the corrosion on the shaft, odor, and discoloration, is more likely due to a water supply issue, or issue with the ice maker mold assembly. You may wanrt to dismount and remove the ice maker and inspect the ice cube mold for detirioration of the coating or metal, in the cube detents. Good Luck and Thanks
