I read somewhere online that the current replacements are now stainless steel. Are these augers now made from stainless steel or are they still just chrome plated steel? Thanks

We have a whole house water filter so we know that is not the problem. I can take my fingernail and peel off the plating. Is this replacement solid steel and not plated in any way?

1 Answer Jeff, I don't think the auger helix is the cause of your issue. The auger helix is made of stainless steel, the corrosion on the shaft, odor, and discoloration, is more likely due to a water supply issue, or issue with the ice maker mold assembly. You may wanrt to dismount and remove the ice maker and inspect the ice cube mold for detirioration of the coating or metal, in the cube detents. Good Luck and Thanks Read More...
