Symptoms of a bad filter manifold include:

  • Leaks around the water filter area
  • Reduced water flow or pressure
  • The water filter not fitting securely
  • Unusual tastes or odors in the filtered water

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Robert for Model Number GFE28GMKBES

Hi, My refrigerator water dispenser stopped working after I changed out the filter. when I go to dispense water the red triangle lights up and says replace water filter / dispenser off. I was able to unplug the frig and tried dispenser, water did work then, however it stops working after about a minute. Now can't get any water to dispense even after unplugging frig. I looked over lines none are pinched. I tried 3 new GE filters but keep getting same result. Any help would be appreciated. Robert

Answer

Robert, as the model provided utilizes a sensor for the filter, it would be recommended that the filter is removed, rotated 180 degrees, and re-installed. If the failure still occurs, the filter board WR55X35905 would need to be tested for 13.6VDC. If there is voltage, it is likely the filter board has failed.
