The Water Filter Manifold is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. Its primary function is to channel and distribute water from the external water supply to the refrigerator's water dispenser and ice maker. This manifold serves as a connection point for the water filter, ensuring that water is properly filtered before reaching the dispenser and ice maker.

Causes of a bad filter manifold can include wear and tear from repeated filter changes, cracks or breaks due to impact, or leaks from deteriorated seals.

Symptoms of a bad filter manifold include:

  • Leaks around the water filter area
  • Reduced water flow or pressure
  • The water filter not fitting securely
  • Unusual tastes or odors in the filtered water

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Filter Manifold (Part Number: OEM17007663)

Paul, You will need to pull the unit out and remove the cover over the tubing and the compressor compartment. Shut the water off and open the refrigerator door and open the cover of the filter. There will be a couple of screws you will remove to tak the manifold out and then you can pull the tubing out once it is disconnected in the back.

Hi, My refrigerator water dispenser stopped working after I changed out the filter. when I go to dispense water the red triangle lights up and says replace water filter / dispenser off. I was able to unplug the frig and tried dispenser, water did work then, however it stops working after about a minute. Now can't get any water to dispense even after unplugging frig. I looked over lines none are pinched. I tried 3 new GE filters but keep getting same result. Any help would be appreciated. Robert

Robert, as the model provided utilizes a sensor for the filter, it would be recommended that the filter is removed, rotated 180 degrees, and re-installed. If the failure still occurs, the filter board WR55X35905 would need to be tested for 13.6VDC. If there is voltage, it is likely the filter board has failed.

Praveen, I would attempt to use the old filter. Try reinserting it and finishing the rotation. If that is not successful you would need to replace the filter head.

Tim for Model Number GFE29HMDCES

Water dispenses slowly from the door. Has always been this way (slow flow). I’ve run with new filters and with bypass in place. Ice maker makes ice but quantity seems less that I would expect. Wondering how to trouble-shoot whether it’s a control valve (and which is which ... I assume “IM” is ice-maker?) or the filter manifold. I’m guessing filter manifold as it would affect both water dispenser flow and ice maker output but would appreciate suggestions on how to better isolate.

Hello Tim, it sounds like the refrigerator has a water supply with low pressure. In general, appliances using a water supply need a minimum of 35 psi with the valve open under load. You can check your house water pressure with a water pressure gauge available at a local home Improvement store in their plumbing section. If you have low pressure you can opt to use a filter bypass plug WR01X29059 and not use a filter for better water flow, as the filter cartridge under low water pressure conditions slows the water flow significantly. If your home water pressure tests correctly meaning 35 psi or higher, check the water supply connection from the refrigerator to the house plumbing, it may be kinked, restricted or if the installer used a saddle valve type of connector.

Richard, To replace the filter manifold, the cover assembly will need to be removed and there will be a couple of screws on the inner part of the cover that you would remove to gain access to the manifold to remove.

Bill, with the water turned off and the unit unplugged, disconnect the inlet tubing from the isolation valve in the machine compartment and the outlet tubing from the quick connector behind the refrigerator. There will be a "Y" connector that will just need the tubing going to the filter manifold removed. From there, access the filter housing and remove the 1/4" screw on the left of the board cover. Disconnect the wiring harness. Unsnap the four retainers to remove the board. There will then be a phillips head screw that will need to be removed to allow the housing to be pulled forward and out. Reverse procedure for installing the new manifold.
