Daron for Model Number JVM1660BB003 GE Profile microwave. Started making loud grinding/popping noise on occasion. About 2 months later it smoked. I found the magnetron with a burned up tip. The waveguide housing even had a burn mark on the outside above the tip. Before I spend $100 to replace the magnetron, what could have caused this? What else should I check, or is this how they fail? Thanks.
Answer Hi Daron. The magnetron/stirrer kit part # WB49X10226 is an upgraded kit. When replacing the magnetron, carefully look at the frame area surrounding the tip especially. If you find any bare unpainted nicks or missing paint then use microwave touch up paint part # TJ98QBP0301. It is good to check the diode part # WB27X1160 and the capacitor part # WB27X10240 as they are directly in the circuit as well. Use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics.
