Terry Sharp for Model Number GE PS123SGRB SV I have a GE PSI23SGRB SV side by side and the refrigerator quit working along with the top dome light not burning. The mid and bottom lights of the refrigerator continue to work. It happened once before. I turned off the breaker for one minute and turned the breaker back on. About two minutes later the fridge started working. The freezer has not failed. Any suggestions? The fridge is 12 years old.
Answer Terry. You have two different issues, The upper refrigerator light is a 120 VAC circuit which terminates at the power cord. You'll need to check the door light switch, the socket and the bulb, there is also a thermostat in the circuit that will open, if the light remains on too long, you'll need to check the thermostat if the switch and socket check OK. The damper is the more likely problem for the refrigerator not cooling, but the freezer being fine. The damper opens and closes depending on the inputs from the sensor(s) in the refrigerator. The damper motors and linkage can/do get stuck or the motor gets out of sink, and will only open when the control is "re booted" by the power supply. Read More...
