Manufacturer Part Number: WD21X10519

The Flood Switch Assembly is an OEM part for GE dishwashers that is responsible for detecting water levels in the dishwasher's base, preventing potential flooding by shutting off the water intake if an overflow is detected. This helps in avoiding water damage to your home and ensuring the dishwasher operates normally.

Symptoms of a bad Flood Switch Assembly include:

  • The dishwasher not filling with water
  • Water not draining properly
  • The dishwasher stops during a cycle

Causes of a bad flood switch assembly can vary from debris accumulation affecting the float's movement to electrical issues within the switch mechanism. Over time, wear and tear on the float or switch can lead to failures.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Answer

DP, If you followed the reverse of the removal procedure, and got the screws tightened properly, you shouldn't have a problem. Remove the lower spray arm and rack, remove the filter vents(twist lock design (turn counter clockwise to remove), remove the course filter, remove the filter adapter(tab lock design) by pulling up on the adapter, remove any water in the area, remove the two(2) 1/4 in. hex head screws securing the flood switch and floor plate to the sump, disconnect the wire harness from underneath the sump and remove the assembly. If you did have an issue with the reinstallation, the wire harness would not twist and lock into place, and / or you'll see water dripping out the bottom of the float switch wire harness.
