The Flood Switch Assembly is an OEM part for GE dishwashers that is responsible for detecting water levels in the dishwasher's base, preventing potential flooding by shutting off the water intake if an overflow is detected. This helps in avoiding water damage to your home and ensuring the dishwasher operates normally.

Symptoms of a bad Flood Switch Assembly include:

  • The dishwasher not filling with water
  • Water not draining properly
  • The dishwasher stops during a cycle

Causes of a bad flood switch assembly can vary from debris accumulation affecting the float's movement to electrical issues within the switch mechanism. Over time, wear and tear on the float or switch can lead to failures.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Flood Switch Assembly (Part Number: OEM17344404)

1 Answer

Chris, The flood switch would have continuity and does not have a set reading. As long as it is not an open line then it should be good.

James, Typically the IH would indicate 1 hour when selecting a cycle or putting the unit into a delay start. There is no error of 999 and that is most likely a version number. If there is a problem with the unit it will have a light on the main control under the unit that would flash a certain way depending on what the problem with the unit is and the tech sheet will tell you what this would mean.

Hello Bruce, your model has hidden heater element that is part of the main wash/circulation motor ,it is powered by the main board located under the dishwasher by the J703 connector. The heater has a ohm value of 14.4 ohms. The flood switch should show no continuity unless the float is lifted, terminals on the switch are 1-7.

Katie for Model Number GDT530PSD1SS

Hi, my dishwasher is leaking water from the bottom of the door when running. We have replaced the lower door gasket and the tub gasket, but are getting the same result - water on the floor. Observations, as soon as I saw the leak I canceled the cycle, so it didn't go through any drying cycle, but hours later there is about a half inch of standing water around the flood switch assembly. There is little to no buildup of debris in the washer as far as I can tell. During the cycle after replacing the gaskets, I checked the drain pipe, and there was water going from the dishwasher through the pipe into the garbage disposal without impediment. I have also confirmed that the spray arm is functional. What do you recommend as a next test? Should the flood switch assembly be replaced? Thank you in advance!

1 Answer

Katie, it would be recommended that all of the water be cleared from the dishwasher. After an hour, inspect under the filter for any water. If there is water building up after it was cleared, the failure would be in the water valve WD15X10015.

Geoffrey, the heating element WD05X35098 and TCO WD21X27402 can be tested from the main control and should measure 14.5 Ohms of resistance when testing the wires at connection J704 pin 2 to pin 1. The turbidity sensor WD21X22830 would need to be tested from the wires at connection J806 pin 11 to pin 8. It should measure around 10K Ohms of resistance at room temperature. If this tests good, the next step would be identifying if the vent fan WD24X25325 is receiving 13.5 VDC during the drying cycle. If the fan does not, the main control WD21X27998 has failed. If the fan does but it does not rotate, the fan motor has failed.

Big Mike, No, this flood switch does not work for your unit. Your unit has a float inside of the sump.

John, A bad float switch would more likely cause an overfilling issue. It would be recommended to check to make sure that there is 120 Vac to the circulation motor when it is supposed to run. Check to make sure that there is nothing caught in the pump and if there is power and nothing caught then the motor would need to be replaced. If there is no power then check for loose or damaged wiring.
