Greggva for Model Number GDT580SMF7ES Should the switch/float travel the entire distance of the flood switch. I have read that new ones "rattle" when you shake them and mine did not and water was not coming into the washer. I used the probes on my multimeter to dislodge the float and which was stuck at the top and it "rattled" again. I reinstalled and it fills with water again. I am guessing it was sending a flooded signal to the water control valve. I am wondering if the float should have more travel though. I tested the center pins on the row of four and got ~11k ohms also.
Answer Hello GreggVA, a stuck float switch will cause the control board to think the dishwasher is filled with water. If it was stuck and you were able to free it and now the dishwasher is working, then that was the only cause however it is likely to stick again, This could be due to food debris, hard water residue etc. You can try using a dishwasher cleaner but if it reoccurs just replace the float WD21X10519.
