The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. As a key component in the refrigerator's water delivery system, the inlet valve is responsible for controlling the flow of water from the main water line into the refrigerator. It precisely regulates water pressure and quantity to ensure optimal performance of the ice maker and water dispenser.

Causes of a bad water inlet valve can include mineral or sediment buildup interfering with water flow, wear and tears to seals or internal components, or damage from freezing.

Symptoms of a bad valve include:

  • Slow or inconsistent fill times for the ice maker or water dispenser
  • Odd sounds or grinding noises coming from the valve area
  • Water leaks in or around the valve
  • The ice maker or water dispenser failing to operate properly or at all

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore refrigerators.

Paul for Model Number GSS25JEPE BB

The water dispenser on my side-by-side refrigerator stopped working abruptly (no gradual drop-off in flow). Light comes on when water dispenser lever is pushed, but there is no humming sound. Ice maker and ice dispenser are working properly. Do I have a faulty valve? Incidentally, I tried to check the water filter but couldn't locate one -- does this machine have a filter? The owner's manual covers several models and I can't find the answer. The filter is NOT located in the upper right hand corner of the refrigerator)

Answer

Paul, This part does not have a water filter. You will want to check to see if you are getting water to the door of freezer. You can do this by removing the lower kick panel and disconnecting the water line. Once disconnected you can push the dispenser lever to see if water comes out. If it does this means that the dispenser fill tube is frozen and will need to have a heater kit WR49X10173 installed.
