Brett for Model Number MER6755AAB

I thought maybe it was a heating element problem but now I'm not sure. I took them both out and tested with a multimeter. The lower oven bake element tests at 22O. I saw on another post you said this should be 30-32O, is this too low? The top oven bake element tests at 30O. Broil setting still works on both top and bottom ovens. When I turn on the bottom oven the lower element does not get hot at all. You can touch it. I am not entirely sure on the top oven. I stopped using it a few months back because I would turn it on to 350°, it would SAY it heated up to the temp in like 2 minutes or so, but the oven was not anywhere near that hot. Maybe 200°. What should I test next? Might be 2 separate issues? Oven Temp Sensor on top oven and bake element on bottom oven?

Answer

Hello Brett, This is most likely a failed relay on the control W10769079. This can be diagnosed if you isolate L1 from L2 by pulling one wire loose from the bake element. Make sure the wire cannot contact ground or any other connections and introduce 240Vac to the unit. Check at the wire for 120Vac and check the terminal for 120Vac. One will be L1 and the other L2. The one that is missing will be the side you will have to backtrack with the wiring diagram to pinpoint the issue. If the control is the issue, there will be no voltage on the bake terminal that leads to the bake terminal with the wire still disconnected. Always remember the power is connected and turned on to prevent electrical shock.
