The Drum Motor Assembly is an OEM part for LG dryers. It serves as the powerhouse that drives the drum, enabling it to tumble clothes during the drying cycle. This essential component ensures your dryer operates smoothly, providing the necessary torque for consistent and efficient drying performance.

Causes of failure might include wear and tear from prolonged use, overload from trying to dry heavy loads, electrical issues like short circuits, or physical damage to the motor components.

Symptoms of a bad Drum Motor Assembly include:

  • The dryer drum fails to turn, even though the dryer powers on.
  • Unusual noises, such as humming or buzzing, indicating the motor is struggling.
  • The dryer stops unexpectedly during cycles or won't start at all.
  • Decreased drying efficiency or clothes taking longer to dry due to inconsistent drum speed.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore.

Answer

Jack, Before you replace the motor, you want to check and make sure there are no loose connections or damaged wires at the terminal block on the back of the dryer. You also want to check the voltage at the terminal block, when you start the dryer. From each outer terminal (L1 and L2) to the center terminal (neutral) you must have at least 105 VAC when the dryer starts. Then test the voltage at the BL2 connector on the control board(across the brown and yellow wires) If all's OK, then replace the motor.
