Nigel for Model Number RFG297HDBP/XAA

Hello. My ice maker is not making ice cubes, while the water dispenser works fine. I've changed the filter and tried a reset, but still no luck. I suspect the Assy Case Water Filter (DA97-11433A) may be the problem. I understand from previous questions that this contains a valve which controls water flow to the ice maker, and is likely a solenoid valve (?). This being the case, can I do a resistance check to see if the solenoid coil is burnt out? If so, what resistance value would I be looking for? Thanks.

Answer

Nigel, The water valve solenoid would normally have a resistance range of 500 to 1500 ohms resistance. A better way to check the operation would be to check the voltage to the solenoid. Disconnect the wires from the solenoid, insert the meter probes into the wire connections and test cycle the ice maker. When the ice maker control enters the fill mode of the cycle, there should be a voltage reading across the wires. This is a more "positive" test. Just be careful when working around the electrical connections.
