Bill Mcglinchey for Model Number RFG297HDRS

the connector inside which holds the water filter seems to have a broken piece and leaks into the bottom large food tray. I believe I must have turned it the wrong way when I changed the filter the last time . I tried putting a thicker o-ring on the new filter but could not get it in. I did not want to force it . can this piece be bought seperately and not have to buy the whole cartridge which holds the filter housing and how do you take it ouy?????????????

Answer

Bill, You most likely damaged the filter housing seat and/or "head assembly. These parts are not available as separate components, you will need to purchase the and replace the water filter case assembly DA97-11433A / DA97-11433A (the part is out of stock at present). To replace the assembly, you will need to remove power to the refrigerator, turn off the water supply and remove the lower shelves and bins and filter. Move the refrigerator out to get behind it. Remove the two screws securing the filter assembly to the rear wall and carefully slide the assembly out use a screwdriver and push the flat-blade driver between fixer tube push the flat-blade driver between fixer tube and tube fitting Disconnect the water tube by pulling the tube fitting while pressing in/down on the collar of the fitting. At the back of the refrigerator, remove 5 screws and loose the tubes, and pull the tube from the case assembly out.Pull the two hose out from the water valve and separate the compression fittings on the tubes as before Return to the front of the refrigerator and pull the filter case assembly out of the refrigerator. Reverse the procedure and restore power and water to the refrigerator, and check for leaks and operation. Remember to run approximately one(1) gallon of water though the dispenser on the door to clear and flush any debris in the filter, tubes and case.
