Bill Mcglinchey for Model Number RFG297HDRS

the connector inside which holds the water filter seems to have a broken piece and leaks into the bottom large food tray. I believe I must have turned it the wrong way when I changed the filter the last time . I tried putting a thicker o-ring on the new filter but could not get it in. I did not want to force it . can this piece be bought seperately and not have to buy the whole cartridge which holds the filter housing and how do you take it ouy?????????????

Bill, You most likely damaged the filter housing seat and/or "head assembly. These parts are not available as separate components, you will need to purchase the and replace the water filter case assembly DA97-11433A / DA97-11433A (the part is out of stock at present). To replace the assembly, you will need to remove power to the refrigerator, turn off the water supply and remove the lower shelves and bins and filter. Move the refrigerator out to get behind it. Remove the two screws securing the filter assembly to the rear wall and carefully slide the assembly out use a screwdriver and push the flat-blade driver between fixer tube push the flat-blade driver between fixer tube and tube fitting Disconnect the water tube by pulling the tube fitting while pressing in/down on the collar of the fitting. At the back of the refrigerator, remove 5 screws and loose the tubes, and pull the tube from the case assembly out.Pull the two hose out from the water valve and separate the compression fittings on the tubes as before Return to the front of the refrigerator and pull the filter case assembly out of the refrigerator. Reverse the procedure and restore power and water to the refrigerator, and check for leaks and operation. Remember to run approximately one(1) gallon of water though the dispenser on the door to clear and flush any debris in the filter, tubes and case.

Ed, Based on this information it would most likely be caused by a faulty icemaker that is not allowing ice to come into the unit but you will also want to make sure that the fill tube is not frozen.

Dan, There is a crush cube solenoid located behind where the icemaker is next to the auger motor that has most likely failed. The part number for the solenoid is DA74-40151G.

Our Samsung ice maker started to only produce crushed ice, and eventually only dispensed water. I'm not positive because we have lazily been using bagged ice for over a year, and our plumber just disconnected the water line from the ice maker for what was supposed to be a week or two for us to get whatever part was necessary. Now, it's been over a year and I asked our plumber what specific part did I need to order so that we could have a functional ice and water dispenser. He told me that instead of getting one specific part, that I should just order a "parts kit" and for me to get the model # from the refrigerator. Please advise as to what I should order from your company. Our plumber is coming next Wednesday, and I would really like to fix this issue. Thank you for your support.

Michael, Not sure what parts kit the plumber is looking for but if the unit is not making ice then the icemaker would most likely be the cause of this issue. The icemaker for this unit would be part number DA97-15217D. You have to be very careful when installing this icemaker as there is a evaporator loop that runs under it and you will have to lower the cover that is on the bottom to get it out. To do this you will remove the screw at the front of the icemaker and there get a flat blade screwdriver in the groove of the cover and pry it to the right. Once you do this you will let the cover drop and you will see a silver loop at the bottom of the icemaker that you will gently need to pull down on just a little to get the icemaker past this loop.

Hello Jay. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Jef. That is the sensor. It is broken it sounds like. You will need to replace the icemaker assembly to repair the unit.

Ice Maker problem. Ice Maker is not dumping the ice. I am knowledgeable enough that I took the part out to take a look. It looks like a portion of the wires that are in the ice maker assembly are stripped. That would be the wires that are a part of the assembly that you can remove (i.e., the one that is inclusive of the tray.) Nothing plastic looks to be broken but I'm thinking I need to replace the wires (the ones that are housed in soft narrow pliable white tubing.) Can you tell me which part I need to replace, because I'm thinking I'll need to replace more than just the wires. I believe the problem was caused by using too much force to push in the top freezer drawer and somehow those wires got pinched which caused the wire housing to be breached and then the covering around the wire also got breached. Can you help me?

1 Answer

Susan, The part that you would need is the complete icemaker assembly DA97-07603B which has that thermistor on it. They do not sell this separately.
