Chris for Model Number RF217ACRS/XAA Ice maker cycles regularly but ice rarely ever gets dumped in full cubes; instead I constantly have a bucket of crushed ice and ice shavings build up in the bottom half of the bucket. Removed the assembly and cleaned the ice tray thoroughly but still experience same issue. What could be the potential root causes for this? Should I be looking to replace the entire assembly? TIA
Answer Chris, You probably won't need the "entire assembly", but may need the DA63-02284B / DA63-02284B Ice Cube Tray after you do some "basic" checks. The ice maker, check to make sure the cube tray sensor and wires are properly attached to the tray and housing. Check and make sure all the doors close and seal properly, test cycle the ice maker and make sure the tray fills properly (each cube compartment should be at least 3/4 full) Then check for a consistent freezer temp. (+3 to -3 dgrs.F.) Here's some additional information "When all ice shatters, it's because of a bad tray or ice cube temp that is too cold (lower than -5 degrees). In some areas, there are water issues that can also cause shattered cubes. The temp in the freezer should not have any effect on this issue, as long as it’s below 1.5 degrees F, as a properly installed sensor will not read the freezer temp, only the water/ice temp. Check the Ice tray for defects in the plastic. Ice that is too cold will shatter during harvest. This can be from the (1) sensor not read-ing the correct temp (2) or the sensor not mounted correctly. Please note, some shattering is normal for a flex tray icemaker" If all checks are OK then replace the assembly. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Tuesday, January 7, 2020
