Kip L for Model Number WF42H5200AF/A2 Hi, this is an older model that I bought used...it needed repair. The machine has worked fine but lately it seems to be having more trouble balancing the load during the spin cycle. Sometimes it succeeds and proceeds to a high speed spin. Other times it just gives up leaving wet clothes. Except for very small amount of surface corrosion, the spider arm looks sound. There is no basket wobble nor bearing noise. I've checked the level of the machine and replaced all 4 shocks. It seems the only thing left would be the balancing ring. I removed it and tried to test it. I can hear metal balls moving if I hold it in different positions, but they seem to move VERY slowly. There are no discernable leaks in the ring. Given the age of this machine, could the viscosity of the liquid inside the ring have changed? I can't say with 100% certainty but it seems when I first got the machine running, I could hear the balls inside the ring more distinctly; now I barely hear them. I can't help but wonder if the fluid inside the ring has somehow become too thick (due to age, temp changes, etc.) so the ring is not longer working as it should. Does that sound possible?
Answer Kip L, If the balance ring has become damaged and lost the fluid it has in it then it would need to be replaced. From the description of the issue, it sounds possible that the balance ring has lost the fluid, or it could be an issue with the load. the load should be not too small and not too large and should be of like items...(shirts with shirts - Jeans with jeans - towels with towels) check the user manual for more loading instructions.
