Tracy for Model Number RS2545SH We bought our unit used from a friend. After approx. 1 month of use the unit started making noise and the temp went up( fridge side only). We took it apart and it was totally iced over. Defrosted it and worked fine for a few weeks and now the temp is going up again. Do you think we need to replace the AP417999 part the fix the problem? I thought you could just replace the defrost heat element, but from I what I am reading it seems like you need to change out that whole part. Thanx for your time.
Answer Tracy, There are several components involved in the defrost system, the heater, the defrost fuse and thermistor along with the main control board. It could get involved. your best bet would be to get access to a multi meter TJMA-DMT3 and check each component for a closed circuit or a resistance reading. You can check the components behind the rear wall of the refrigerator compartment and replace the appropriate part. or if all checks OK replace the main control board. If you do need a heater, a lot of service persons remove the new heater from the new evaporator and install it on the original evaporator, instead of replacing the complete assembly per the manufacturer. here's some help for using a multimeter [http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html] , Good Luck and Thanks Read More...
