Grant for Model Number RF261BEAESR/AA-0001 Freezer is working, but the fresh food compartment started to ice over and get warm. I spent the last two days thawing out everything. A month ago I heard a loud motor sound, and then it stopped. I believe it was the fan blade hitting ice, then it stopped spinning. Then recently, the refrigerator was not getting very cold. The exchanger is getting cold and the defroster is melting the ice build up. Took the motor out and applied 12v. I could not get it to spin and no resistance on the ohm meter. I assumed the motor eventually fried with the cycling of power on and off. I checked the thermistors, with a ohm meter, and both showed an open line. I checked the bi-metal thermostat, and is showed little resistance. So order (# #6606711) received, new fan, two thermistors and thermostat. I performed the same checks, fan no resistance or didn't spin with 12v. The thermistors and thermostat have no resistance and cold and warm temperature. Maybe the meter is bad, but applied to other tools and they showed resistance, as well as the defroster.
Answer Hello Grant, This can be the fan motor DA97-12609C or the control board DA92-00384D causing the issue. The defrost thermostat should show no resistance when at about 20°F. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Tuesday, May 31, 2016
