Bob D. for Model Number Samsung DW80F800UWS I’ve replaced the drain check flapper on this unit twice in the past 2 years because it swells and gets twisted. What is causing it to do this? The smelly dishwasher is getting frustrating and these valves aren’t cheap.
Answer Hello Bob, Two things cause the swelling and malformation of rubber parts inside the dishwasher. Pre-rinsing the dishes and oversoaping the unit are the two worst things you can do to a dishwasher. You see, the detergent is designed to attack food particles. When there is too much detergent in relation to the amount of food particles present, the chemical reaction produced by the combination of hot water and detergent will attack the next easiest things to attack. The things that get attacked are rubber components in the dishwasher, patterns on plates, silverware, and clear glassware. First, never rinse dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.
