Can a non-professional replace this glass with the Window-Pac by Whirlpool,Part Number AP4396587? If so, can you give detailed instructions on how to do it? Do you need to turn off the electricity? Thank you very much.
Answer Mrs.Fix It, Yes, the average "do it yourselfer" can replace the window pack WP5700M600-60 without a lot of difficulty. Unfortunately, there is little to no "detailed" information regarding the dismantling of the door. You will need a couple of small nails to "lock" the door open to remove it from the hinges. Open the oven door all the way, insert the nails into the opening on the hinge plate, then slowly close the oven door until the door touches the nails, then grasp the door and lift it up and off the hinges and set it face up on a padded surface on the table. Remove the perimeter screws from the door frame and lift it off the door liner and set it aside. carefully lift the door glass, handle and support frame assembly from the door liner, set it aside in a safe place(you don't want to damage or break the glass). Then remove the screws that secure the inner door pad and glass pack to the door liner. Remove the insulation(you'll want to wear a long sleeved shirt or something similar) and then the glass assembly. Reverse the procedure and test the oven for operation. Yes, you should remove the power to the product, whenever you are working on it, it better to be safe than sorry, it's only a matter of turning the breakers off at the fuse or breaker panel.
