Tomas

Whirpool washer model #WTW5850SW0. It stopped working, it would only spin and drain and would only wash in a small section of one of the cycles so i thought it could be the timer, i opened the control top and saw ants over the timer. I took it out and opened it and found a ton of ants inside and several contacts were black. I cleaned and installed it but now the washer only overfills and does not wash or spin. Not sure if it's the timer, water switch or capacitor. The timer is not that cheap considering the washer is far from new and buying it only to find that wasn't the problem would be bad.

Answer

Thomas, The unit overfilling with water and not spinning or agitating it would be recommended to check the pressure hose to make sure that it is still attached to the tub and to the pressure switch. Also check for loose or damaged wiring. The timer would most likely be the issue if the contacts are not on properly in. If the pressure hose is good then the timer should be replaced. This timer is not designed to be taken apart.
