Robert I just replaced a capacitor. My old one got burned out because water got inside it and it popped. Is the capacitor supposed to get hot? I'm very nevous that it might pop because it started to smoke.
Answer Hello Robert, The capacitor should not get hot. If the capacitor is getting hot, the motor is either in a bind or the windings have shorted, providing too much voltage through the capacitor. The wiring and motor should be checked for proper resistances and connections. The voltage at the receptacle should be checked for the proper power supply and polarity. If you have further questions, please provide the model number so we can be specific to your unit and assist in locating the cause of the issue. Read More...
