By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18030570
Manufacturer Part Number: WP65889-4

The Run Capacitor is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is responsible for helping the compressor motor start and run efficiently by providing an extra electrical boost. This component ensures that the refrigerator operates smoothly and maintains the correct temperature by stabilizing the compressor's performance.

Causes of a bad run capacitor can include electrical surges, age-related wear, or overheating. When the capacitor fails, the compressor may struggle to start or run continuously, leading to inefficient cooling or a non-functional refrigerator.

Symptoms of a bad run capacitor include:

  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • The compressor not starting or running intermittently
  • Unusual clicking noises from the refrigerator

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Answer

Gilbert, if the "freezer works fine" then the compressor is running and the run capacitor is working. Since you have to defrost the unit, you'll need to check to see if there's and issue with the defrost components or check to see that the auto damper opens and closes when needed. If you remove the front kickplate, and look inside above the condenser coil, you should find the tech data sheet in a plastic envelope, retrieve the information and conduct the service mode test and check all the components for operation. If the tech information has been removed, repost your question and include an e mail address so we can supply the information to you. Thanks,
