Erik for Model Number KRMF706ESS01

I have a 4.5 yr old KitchenAid model KRMF706ESS01. From day one the freezer light did not work. Within a month the top lights were dimmed and not fully bright. Over the past year, problems got worse with lights and about two months ago all sorts of new problems started creeping up. Over time, the interior lights stopped working altogether, the ice maker would stop working, and a 10-minute unplug would resolve the issue. The fridge light comes back on, ice starts working. About a month ago, the fridge and freezer stopped cooling. I kept it unplugged for 24hrs and had an overflow of thawed ice water in the catch pan. When I plugged it back in the ice maker, stopped working, all interior lights stopped working, the ice maker stopped as well as water dispenser stopped dispensing water. The fridge cooled down but not as cold as before (it will not freeze Ice cream even though freezer set to -5F, and made sure not in vacation mode or sabbath mode). It intermittently stops cooling or I am getting an open door error with all doors drawers shut and requires a reset to start cooling again but all the other issues remain - no lights, ice, water. All interface functions (on water/ice dispenser) are working. I tested the left door switch and it is working in both open and closed positions. I think this is one or more control boards and possibly more after reading posts. Any advice on what tests to run, parts to replace would be greatly appreciated!

Answer

Erik, based on the information provided, the freezer light W11683243 has had a short in it and needs to be replaced. However, as the failure has occurred for an extended period of time, it is very likely that the main control WPW10675033 and the LED control W10804160 have been affected and are resulting in the current failure.
