For Whirlpool Power Control Board (Part Number: OEM18070422)

Gerry for Model Number wrv986fdem01

Lights at top of fridge cabinet don't work, but side lights do work. Also, the deli drawer control panel has no lights and nothing happens when trying to change the deli drawer temperature preset. I pulled out the deli drawer controller, and there is no water there. The ice maker in the door and the one in the freezer work correctly, and the freezer and frig seemed to be cooling correctly. The wires going through the left door top hinge are not frayed or stressed. I understand that the lights in the cabinet are wired in series, but would a bad LED knock power out to the deli drawer controller? Thanks!

Hello Gerry, thank you for contacting Appliance Parts Pros. You most likely have 2 separate issues going on, this unit had known issues with the Deli UI and with the lights. It is recommended by the manufacturer to replace ALL of the LEDs in the unit, regardless of whether or not they are out, using module kit [W11683243]. As for the Deli UI, it could be the deli control [WPW10677119], but it is also possible that it is the harness in the deli drawer door [W10815674], or the side adapter harness [W11170612]. Usually you can pop that deli UI out from the top and check to see if there is moisture underneath it. If the wiring in the door is corroded you will most likely need to replace the door and the deli UI. If the wiring looks good and it is dry underneath it I would replace the deli UI by itself 1st.

Rod, if the door switches operate properly and the LED control sends out 12VDC, the LEDs would all need to be replaced as it is common for one to fail in the line after a failure was corrected. The LED module kit W11683244 would be used to replace all of the LED modules as it is a 9 (short plug) plus 3 (long plug) kit.

Erik, if the model number of your appliance could be provided in a new question, this will allow the most accurate information to be presented.

Erik for Model Number KRMF706ESS01

I have a 4.5 yr old KitchenAid model KRMF706ESS01. From day one the freezer light did not work. Within a month the top lights were dimmed and not fully bright. Over the past year, problems got worse with lights and about two months ago all sorts of new problems started creeping up. Over time, the interior lights stopped working altogether, the ice maker would stop working, and a 10-minute unplug would resolve the issue. The fridge light comes back on, ice starts working. About a month ago, the fridge and freezer stopped cooling. I kept it unplugged for 24hrs and had an overflow of thawed ice water in the catch pan. When I plugged it back in the ice maker, stopped working, all interior lights stopped working, the ice maker stopped as well as water dispenser stopped dispensing water. The fridge cooled down but not as cold as before (it will not freeze Ice cream even though freezer set to -5F, and made sure not in vacation mode or sabbath mode). It intermittently stops cooling or I am getting an open door error with all doors drawers shut and requires a reset to start cooling again but all the other issues remain - no lights, ice, water. All interface functions (on water/ice dispenser) are working. I tested the left door switch and it is working in both open and closed positions. I think this is one or more control boards and possibly more after reading posts. Any advice on what tests to run, parts to replace would be greatly appreciated!

Erik, based on the information provided, the freezer light W11683243 has had a short in it and needs to be replaced. However, as the failure has occurred for an extended period of time, it is very likely that the main control WPW10675033 and the LED control W10804160 have been affected and are resulting in the current failure.

Nathan, if the entire refrigerator stops working when this failure occurs, it is likely that a shorted control is causing it. With the power supply cord unplugged, the power control WPW10624574, main control WPW10675033, and the drawer control WPW10769076 would need to be inspected for any indications of corrosion or burnt-out connectors/solder joints. If there is a visible failure found on any of the parts, the specific part would need to be replaced.

Jeff, when it is in the state of failure, the dispenser control W11330971 would need to be tested for 14VDC at connection J2 from pin 4 to pin 6. If the voltage is steady, the dispenser control has failed. If it is not steady, and there is not a broken wire at the door hinge, the power control board WPW10624574 has failed. The power control board failing can cause all of these symptoms while not necessarily affecting the primary function of the appliance.

JAMES S, When this happens you should use the tech sheet packaged with the refrigerator to test power in and power out of the board. This unit uses the board for controlling the defrost instead of a timer. (see P2 and P8 on the main control board)

Edeltraud for Model Number KRMF706ESS00

My fridge had the door open chime and the door open LED illuminated even so no door was opened. So I unplugged the fridge in the hopes to reset it. Once plugged back in, itflashed PF and confirm. I pressed confirm. All lights inside are off, no water is dispensing, no ice is being made. Seems to still cool but not as cold (46F) as before. Control panel in the front lets me turn on the light on the dispenser and lock the screen but not much else. There are 3 control panels - which one do I need to replace: W10788814 or WPW10675033 or WPW10624574?

Edeltraud, Before we replace anything try turning cooling off and back on by pressing the LOCK and MEASURED FILL for three seconds to make sure it hasn't entered sabbath mode. We are emailing you a tech sheet wich shows how to enter diagnostics and run some test for the user interface board and turn on fan and lights, compressor etc. From what you described it could be the user interface board.
