Max for Model Number SQD26VW

I have an Amana side-by-side, model number SQD26VW. The fridge side was not getting cold and the freezer side was not freezing. The fan and compressor are both running. I called a repair man. He came out. He took the inside panel off from inside the freezer and there was alot of frost and ice on the top half of the coil. He thought the defrost fan was bad. He checked the voltage of the 2 wires going to the fan and he said neither wire had 120 volts. He called the manufacture troubleshooting line and they suggested the cold control might be bad. He then looked up getting a new cold control and said this item was discontinued. 1) From the details I provided, does it sound like the cold control is bad and needs to be changed? 2) Exactly which part number is the cold control? If the part is available, I want to order the correct part.

Answer

Max, If the unit's compressor and the fans are running then this will be a sealed system issue and would need to be repaired by a qualified Refrigeration technician. The fans will not operate and the compressor will not operate if the cold control is defective. The fact that there was frost on the top half of the evaporator coils but nothing on the bottom would also indicate a sealed system issue. The cold control for this unit is part number R0161092. Now there is a possibility that the defrost thermostat could be faulty and would cause the evaporator fan to not run which could cause the same type of issue with the frost pattern. The defrost thermostat would be part number R0161088.
