Jay for Model Number Amana SRD26VE The refrigerator runs for a long time. If I turn the freezer side temperature warmer, the unit shuts off. I can then return the temperature to the number it was at before and seems to stay off for a normal amount of time. It is cooling as the food in the fresh food compartment sometimes will freeze if the door is not opened for the day. Which way should I look? Thanks!
Answer Hello Jay, I would make sure the freezer fan is running and if it is, make sure the air is coming into the fresh food side at the top. There could be either a frost build-up preventing cold air circulation or a defrost issue which ultimately causes the same thing, air flow blockage. If the fresh food side is freezing items, this also is an indication of an air flow restriction. The fresh food side will always freeze items if the fresh food side is set too warm, since this causes the fan to be turned on too seldom and cold air will migrate to the bottom of the unit. Check for frost build-up at the evaporator coil and at the air damper (at the top of the fresh food section where the air enters from the freezer compartment). Read More...
