Customer Questions and Answers for High Limit Thermostat Kit by Whirlpool

Manufacturer Part Number: W11050897

The High Limit Thermostat Kit is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dryers. This kit includes a thermostat that is designed to prevent the dryer from overheating by monitoring the temperature inside the dryer drum. If the temperature exceeds a safe level, the high limit thermostat cuts off power to the heating element, ensuring the appliance operates within safe parameters and protecting it from potential damage.

Over time, the high limit thermostat can wear out or fail due to repeated cycling and exposure to high temperatures. Electrical surges, buildup of lint and debris, or faulty wiring can also cause the thermostat to malfunction, potentially leading to overheating or inadequate drying performance.

Symptoms of a bad high limit thermostat include:

  • The dryer not heating or only producing intermittent heat
  • The dryer shutting off unexpectedly during a cycle
  • Clothes taking longer than usual to dry
  • The dryer running excessively hot or not hot enough
  • Error codes related to temperature issues appearing on the display panel

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Andrew T for Model Number 110.74652400

hello, I have a kenmore dryer model # 110.74652400. I have a problem with it not heating up. At first it heats up. The igniter glows and ingites the flame. after a 1 or 2 flame will go out. and reignites again when igniter glows. But after awhile it just stops igniting the flame. the igniter will glow but will not ignite a flame. I have tested all parts with a multi meter and came back good. only 2 part i could not fully check was high limit thermostat and cycling thermostat. Thay had to be at high heat to test them. So I am not sure if it is them or maybe possibly the gas valve itself. Thank you for your time.

Answer

Andrew, It would be possible that the cycling thermostat would be the cause of the unit no igniting but would be more likely the gas valve since the igniter is igniting.

Answer

Andrew, You described the classic gas valve coil failure. After a few cycles the magnetic coil will "breakdown" and will not raise the internal plunger to allow the gas to flow through the valve body. Replace the gas valve coil kit 279834 / 694540 and you should be fine. By the way, all the thermostats should have a "closed" circuit at room temperature. The coil kit is in stock and available at this time. Thanks,
