By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18034956
Manufacturer Part Number: WP8054129

The Spark Igniter is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool gas ranges. Located inside the oven cavity it initiates combustion using high-voltage electricity. This is a broil igniter for the upper (broil) burner.

Causes of malfunction relate primarily to element degradation from extended heating cycles. Exposure to grease or other residue accumulation shortens the service life by insulating the hot surface.

Symptoms involve:

  • Inability to ignite gas burners using the automatic igniter
  • Safety issues arise requiring manual lighting with matches or lighters
  • Difficulties baking or broiling without consistent flame generation
  • Element replacement prevents further problems and safety hazards

This is a genuine Whirlpool OEM replacement this part is also compatible with Maytag, Jenn-Air and some Kenmore models.

Answer

Gary, Your issue is most likely in the DSI Spark Module WPW10331686, but could be in the gas distribution valve WPW10293048 Here's some test information, that will help you out. First thing, check and make sure the power cord is attached to a properly polarized and grounded 120 VAC outlet. A proper ground is very important for the range to operate properly. Then you'll need to make several tests at the gas distribution valve. You'll need a multi meter to test voltage and resistances. At the valve body terminals, with the wires labeled and removed from the middle terminal to each of the outer terminals, you should read 215 ohms resistance. With the wires reconnected, when you select the bake cycle, you should have a reading of 8 to 18 VDC across the red and orange wires. When you make a broil selection you should have the same 8 to 18 VDC,across the orange and blue wires. If all checks are proper(within 10%) repalce the gas valve and check the wiring at the igniters. Thanks
