By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18038493
Manufacturer Part Number: WP8523047

This radiant surface heating element restores proper burner performance on electric glass cooktops/ranges. It replaces a failed element so cookware heats evenly and reliably beneath the ceramic glass. What it does:

  • Converts electrical energy into radiant heat under the glass-ceramic surface
  • Replaces a burner that won't heat at all
  • Helps resolve uneven heating or only part of the ring glowing
  • Addresses visible damage such as hot spots, discoloration, or breaks in the element
What's included:
  • One surface element
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing; allow the cooktop to cool completely
  • Lift and support the cooktop; handle the element carefully—it is fragile
  • Note wire locations and move them one at a time to the new element; ensure terminals are fully seated
  • Reinstall mounting clips/brackets so the element sits flat and clear of the glass before restoring power

Hello Cal, its possible the dual burner's inner coil has failed in which case you would have to replace the element, or the infinite switch contacts for the inner coil have failed. Using a multimeter you can test the infinite switch contacts ,disconnect power to the stove, remove the rear backguard cover , at the infinite switch for the dual burner disconnect the wires from terminals P2 and 4 and test for continuity with the switch turned on, , if it tests ok access the underside of the dual burner and disconnect the wires from terminals 4 and 2 at using those terminals check for an ohm value of about 57 ohms. The switch is part WP9758060, the dual element is part WP8523047.
