Diana, The infinite control switch would be the more likely and more common problem for an element that won't heat. You would need to have a multi meter TJMA-DM1 to test the infinite switch circuits to see which contacts have failed . You would also use the meter to test the element ribbon circuits as well as the sensor circuits on the side of the element. Once you remove power and the glass top, you'll have access to both the switches and burner elements, you can then visually inspect both parts for visible damage, arc marks and broken burnt wires, etc. then use the meter to test the circuits.
