Jermaine for Model Number MER5751AAW The rear element on our 4 1/2 yr old stove-top just magically stopped working. My wife explained that she turned the power on, noticed the usual reddening of the element and then...nothing. I'd like to know if purchasing the replacement element (part#AP4099027) is the right route to go, or is there some sort of troubleshooting that I could do to identify the problem? Please help!
Answer Hello Jermaine. You will need to test and see if there is power at the element. If so, and the element does not glow, you will need to replace the element W10823715. If there is not power at the element, then the switch WP7403P239-60 will need to be replaced on the unit. You can use a meter and test this at the switch. Check across H1 and H2 at the switch. With the switch on, there should be power. If not, replace the switch. If so, replace the element. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps.http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
