Phyllis` for Model Number aer5712baw I turned the front large burner on hi to boil water, The burner got extremly hot and the entire range top got red. After turning it off it took the surface a long time to cool off. Do you think the burner is ready to burn out and needs replaced or do you have any idea what may have happened. I have not turned it back on since,
Answer Phylis, You may want to take a 1 or 2 quart pot half full of water and set it on a medium heat setting, observe the burner operation, it should cycle off and on and should take quite a while to bring the water to a boil. If the element does not cycle off and on, you most likely have a problem in the burner infinite switch. If you were using a very large pot and a very large quantity of water, you may have transferred enough heat into the cooktop glass and burner, to give the impression, everything overheated.
